Ales is a former student of the Minsk State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.
Chronicle of repression
On 28 February 1998 militia arrested the three youngsters for spray-painting Zhiyvie Belarus and other slogans, including phrases of a political nature, along with painting a picture of a white-red-white flag. Criminal proceedings were instituted under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus: the article 201, part 1 (malicious hooliganism), the article 96 (damage to property) and the article 205 (involvement of minors in criminal activity). Pavel Murashka was at the time 17 years old, Andrej Gilevich and Ales Muchin 18 years old.
On 23 March Ales Muchin was expelled from the University, before the trial had even begun. On 8 May 1998 Ales was found guilty and sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment in suspension.
