Ales Bondar

Ales Bondar – in 2008 one of the defendants in the Case of 14. Born on 14 May 1981 into a military family in Russia. After some time the family moved to Belarus, his father’s homeland. In 2003 he graduated from the Belarusian Institute of Jurisprudence, received a degree in law with a specialization in tax and banking law. He has worked in various private companies. Since 1996 he has been an actively participating in the opposition demonstrations, in 1999, he was a member of the Association of Belarusian Students. Since the spring of 2006, he was an activist of the youth organization “Initiative.”

Chronicle of repression

In 2008 Ales Bondar was arrested for 5 days for taking part in the demonstration of entrepreneurs  that took place on 21 January. Ales was charged under the art. 342, part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organization and active participation in group actions, seriously violating public order). On 22 April he was found guilty of the alleged offense and sentenced to 2 years of restriction of freedom.
