Andrej Gilevich

Andrej was born in 1980. He was a student at the Minsk Information and Radio-Technical Institute and a member of the Young Front.

Chronicle of repression

Andrej Gilevich was charged together with his friends Ales Muchin and Pavel Murashka. On 28 February 1998 militia arrested the three youngsters for spray-painting Zhiyvie Belarus and other slogans, including phrases of a political nature, along with painting a picture of a white-red-white flag. Criminal proceedings were instituted under three articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus:  the article 201, part 1  (malicious hooliganism), the article 96 (damage to property) and the article 205 (involvement of minors in criminal activity). Pavel Murashka was at the time 17 years old, Andrej Gilevich and Ales Muchin 18 years old.

On 23 March Gilevich was expelled from the University, before the trial had even begun.

On 8 May 1998 Andrej was found guilty and sentenced to one year of imprisonment in suspension.
