Former political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich has applied to the Mahiliou Region Department of Corrections with a request to inspect prison No. 4 in Mahiliou and find out why letters sent by Mikalai Statkevich haven’t been received by their addressees.

– Mikola’s wife, Maryna Adamovich told me that she received a letter from her husband on 21 October, in which he passes greetings to me and writes that he has sent me three letters lately – says the co-head of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich.

-However, I received just one postcard from him two months ago. Unfortunately, this is not the first case when the administration of the Mahiliou prison blocks the mail of the political prisoners, it has happened in case of Mikalai Statkevich and Jauhien Vaskovich, and concerns the letters send by them and the letters sent by other people to them. That’s why I applied to the Department of Corrections to require an examination on this incident – he added.

Zmitser Dashkevich has no illusions that the Department of Corrections will find the “lost” letters of Mikalai Statkevich. However, he is convinced that it is necessary to draw attentions to the lawless actions in the penitentiary system in order to decrease number of such violations.

A few days ago media informed that Statkevich was tortured by prison authorities and deprived of sleep. He is often put into solitary confinement cell, he is not allowed to receive regular food packages and to meet with his family.
