Norwegian TV: Bialiatski was very close to receiving the Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Committee considered four main candidates, among them was the Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski.

According to the Norwegian television channel NRK, the Nobel Committee rejected the candidacy of 16-year-old Pakistani Malalia Yuosufzai because of her young age, moreover, she runs a blog, which exposed her to attacks by Islamic extremists, handing her the Nobel Prize could further endanger her.

Therefore, the main contenders for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, as the Norwegian television claims, were: Organization for the Prohibition of Use of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the reformist president Myanmar Teyn Sehwag, a gynecologist from the Congo, Danny Mukwete and the Belarusian human rights defender Ales Bialiatski.

On last Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize will go to the OPCW.
