Hrodna journalist and reporter of Gazeta Wyborcza was sentenced to imprisonment with a respite for “slandering the President”.

His articles on the website of Belarusian Partisan and in Gazeta Wyborcza were the reason for it. Hrodna Lenin District Court decided to imprison the journalist on July 5, 2011 with a 2-year respite.

The hearing will start on September 23 at 3.30 p.m. in Hrodna Lenin District Court.

Andrzej Poczobut did not even know the exact date of the end of his respite and was summoned to court only on September 21. “Well, let’s be released, why not,” the journalist wrote in his blog.

The court has three options: it can be concluded that the sentence is completed, extend the suspension or send to prison. One of these options will be announced on September 23.
