Mikola Statkievich is no longer a prisoner violating the prison regime

Political prisoner also received a return of 100 thousand rubles for shopping in the prison shop.

As Maryna Adamovich, wife of a political prisoner, informed Radio Svaboda:

“The 100 thousand rubles is good news. Mikola in a recent letter reported that there was a meeting of the prison commission, that decided he is no longer described as a prisoner violating the prison regime, but he is still characterized as a prisoner that is not able to improve. However, he still does not know whether he is being  characterized as “prone to escape and attack.” Therefore, his victuals increased from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles. This is an occasion for celebration, due to the significant addition to his prison ration “- she said.

Mikola Statkievich ran for president in 2010. He was arrested after a mass protest action against electoral fraud.

On 26 May 2011 politician was sentenced by District Court in Minsk to six years imprisonment in a maximum security facility.

By court order dated 24 January, 2012 prison conditions have been further strengthened and he was transferred from a penal colony No. 17 in Shklov to Prison No. 4 in Mogilev.
