Ales Bialiatski writes in his letter from prison about a great surprise and optimistic signs

In his letter of  27th September the human rights defender and political prisoner writes that he receives many postcards with congratulations on his jubilee, tells what became the greatest surprise he couldn’t even imagine and reminds about the things we should always keep in mind.
As he writes:

“I receive many letters and postcards. I try to answer all of those that have the return address. From 25th to 27th September, I have received about 200 of them. The weather is nicer and I feel better.

The greatest surprise was the visit of the Apostolic Nuncio on September 25. I couldn’t even imagine it! It means that the Pope cares about us, prisoners. It can be compared to when Pope Jan Paul II went to Cuba and more than 100 prisoners were released. They were put on a plane and taken away to Canada. I hope for a better solution. All, in all, the visit of the nuncio  is a quite an optimistic sign. He asked whether I want him to deliver a message to  the Pope. I told him to pass to the Pope my words of gratitude for the concern about us.

However, what is much more important in this story is that this visit may help in creating such a situation that will prevent imprisonment of next political prisoners. This should be always kept in mind.”
