After leaving prison Aliaksandr Malchanau will be under preventive supervision.
Aliaksandr Malchanau is serving a sentence in a penal colony in Nowosady in Borisov and should be released in 5 days.
On July 4th the court held a meeting in prison, and decided to establish a preventive supervision over Mr. Malchanau for six months. Tatiana Kim, human rights activist, informed «Radio Svaboda» about the court’s meeting.
“Aliaksandr is worried because preventive supervision crosses his plans to return to college this year in Minsk. He said that the court was putting pressure on him and witnesses. He mentioned the name of the head of department of special rigor in the penal colony – Oleg Balobalov “, – said Tatiana Kim.
Aliaksandr was detained on 6 January in Borisov. He was charged with participation in the mass riots on December 19, 2010. He was sentencted to three years in prison on March 2. On 5 April, Minsk City Court considered the appeal against the verdict to Aliaksandr Malchanau. A board of judges presided by Valery Kamisarau upheld the verdict by Minsk Frunzenski District Court of March 2. He was released on amnesty on September 14, 2011.
However, shortly afterwards against Aliaksandr was opened the second criminal proceeding. In November 2011 he was re-arrested in Borisov and was kept in temporary custody. This time the opposition leader was accused of stealing scrap metal. Aliaksandr could not find work because of the political process, no one wanted to hire him, so he earned for his and his parents living by collecting scrap metal. On April 9, 2012, he was sentenced to one year and six months of imprisonment in maximum security colony.
