A political prisoner does not receive letters.
Autukhovich’s Afghan war friend, Alyaksandr Sakharuk, fears Autukhovich does not receive his letters.
“He didn’t reply to two latest letters. I sent a registered letter with delivery confirmation. I will wait and see what will happen. We both served in Afghanistan. When I began to write to him, we found out that we know the same towns and even kishlaks. I call him my army friend. I want to do my best to support him, but with no success” – he said.
Autukovich, the businessman from Vaukavysk, in 2010 was sentenced to 5 years and 2 months in prison. He was accused of illegal possession of weapons (five cartridges for hunting were found in his safe). Autukhovich serves his term in a closed prison in Hrodna after being transferred here from a penal colony in Ivatsevichy as the authorities gave him the status of a persistent violator of prison rules.
